Cuban pianist Rubén Gonzalez was an inspired and inspiring artist. His great musicality, natural charm and inimitable touch had already provided him with the love and esteem of Latin music-lovers well before he was catapulted to international fame with the Buena Vista Social Club in the late nineties. Illness and old age would soon prevent him from touring with the group. Ruben died in December 2003 at the age of 84, sadly mourned by all those that had known, seen or heard him and his music.
